Clover Station Duo
The counter station with a customer-facing screen for tips and signatures. The usual main register at a pizza counter, and where phone orders are rung when the shop runs on one screen.
Clover POS by business type
Clover POS for pizza shops, set up by Stratamize: half-and-half and topping modifiers built before go-live, online ordering with delivery and phone orders.
A pizza menu is not a restaurant menu with extra toppings. Half-and-half pies, several sizes and crusts, light or extra on any topping, specialty templates, and a delivery side that a dining room never thinks about. Most complaints about Clover in pizza shops trace back to one thing: a menu built as if every pizza were a sandwich, usually by a reseller who shipped a box and moved on.
Stratamize sets Clover up around the way your shop actually takes orders: the merchant account, the pizza menu and its modifier logic, online ordering for pickup and delivery, phone orders, kitchen tickets and training for the line. We build and test the menu before go-live, and we put the pricing in writing before you commit.
This page answers the questions pizzeria owners ask us most, including the ones specialist pizza POS vendors say Clover cannot answer. Table service and bar tabs are on our restaurant page below.
Yes, and it is the first thing we build. On Clover, toppings are modifiers, so a half-and-half pizza is a modifier setup: a topping applies to the whole pie, the left half or the right half, and the menu is built so the kitchen ticket reads the way your cooks expect. The forum complaints about Clover and pizza are mostly shops where that structure was never built, so staff typed half-and-halves in a note.
The pricing rule matters as much as the layout: some shops charge the higher half, some average the two, some price each half on its own. Tell us your rule and we will show you how it rings on the setup we propose, and say plainly if it is cleaner on a pizza-specific App Market app than on the standard menu.
Each decision your counter makes becomes a modifier group: size, then crust, then toppings with light, regular or extra on each, with the price following the size. Specialty pizzas are their own items, so a Supreme rings in one tap and still lets a customer drop the olives. The work is in the order of the groups and the required-versus-optional rules, so a new hire cannot send an incomplete pizza to the oven. Bring your paper menu and your most awkward regular order to the first call.
Clover offers its own online ordering for pickup and delivery, which is the alternative to living on the marketplace apps alone. Clover also publishes a delivery integration that runs delivery through a third-party driver network from your own online menu; it carries a per-order fee, and we will show you the current figure in writing before you turn it on. Delivery zones, zone-based fees and dispatch for your own drivers are partly native and partly App Market territory, and a large fleet may be better served elsewhere; bring your delivery routine and we will show you what handles each part.
The Clover App Market has a cluster of pizza apps: pizza builders with a graphical half-and-half screen, online ordering apps that sit in front of the Clover menu, and connectors that pull marketplace orders into your Clover instead of a separate tablet. Each is its own subscription, and the common complaint from owners is that the monthly cost creeps up one app at a time.
Our rule is to start with what Clover does natively and add an app only when the standard menu does not do the job well. Before go-live we list every app we recommend, what it is for and what it costs, so the total is a number you saw up front.
Pizza shops still take a real share of orders by phone, so the counter needs a fast way to ring a pizza, attach a name and number, mark it pickup or delivery and send it to the kitchen without a card in hand. Clover handles that on a station or a Mini at the phone position. Caller ID that pops the customer's history when the phone rings is a separate question: ask us whether an App Market app or counter hardware covers it for your phone setup. For cards taken over the phone, ask us how card-not-present orders are priced; it is not the same as a swipe at the counter.
A printer puts a ticket on the rail; the Clover Kitchen Display puts it on a screen where the make line bumps each pie as it goes in the oven. Shops with one make line often run fine on a printer, as long as the ticket prints the halves and quantities clearly, which is a menu-build problem, not a hardware problem. Busier shops, or shops with a separate station for wings and subs, tend to want the display or a second printer so side items are not lost behind the pizzas. Tell us your Friday volume and the kitchen layout and we will recommend one.
Specialist pizza POS vendors publish pages saying so, and the fair version of their point is this: Clover is a general restaurant and retail system, and a pizza menu, driver dispatch and caller ID are not its first job out of the box. Where Clover does those things natively, we build them; where an App Market app does them better, we say so and price it; and where a dedicated pizza system fits a very high-volume delivery operation better, we will tell you that before you buy hardware. For most independent pizzerias, counter plus delivery, Clover with a well-built menu and one or two apps covers the job.
Approvals usually come back within hours, three days at most. After approval we build the menu with you, including the half-and-half logic, the size and crust groups and the specialty templates, then set up phone orders, online ordering and kitchen tickets, place the hardware and train the team. A pizza menu takes longer than a short counter menu because we test every awkward order before go-live rather than letting your staff find the gaps.
