Paper or PDF statements
Look for the summary: total amount submitted for sales, and the grand total of all fees and charges. Some statements show a smaller 'total fees' line that covers account fees only; use the grand total.

Your effective rate
Divide total fees by total card sales for the same month. That is your effective rate: what you really pay, however many fee lines the statement has. Use gross card sales, count every fee line, and spread annual fees over twelve months.
| From one month's statement | Example |
|---|---|
| Total card sales | $30,000.00 |
| Total fees and charges | $910.00 |
| Effective rate (fees divided by sales) | 3.03% |
| What you pay per $100 in card sales | $3.03 |
Illustrative numbers. Our rate tool does this math from your own statement, in your browser.
Where to look
Start on the summary page, then check the first and last pages for notices about fee changes. Some providers send no statement at all; the numbers are in a report instead.

No monthly statement. In the Dashboard, open Reports and use the fees report or the Fees line in the Sales Summary.
The Balance summary report shows gross volume, fees and net, side by side.
In Reports, open Payments, then Processing statements.
Worth a closer look
We show you the line on your own statement. We never guess at what a fee is, and we never promise a refund from your current provider.
Send a two-minute request. We show you your effective rate, explain each fee and quote the same month with us before you decide.
Before you cancel anything
Find your current processing agreement before you switch. It states the term, how it renews and any early termination fee. Bring it to us and we read it with you, so you know what leaving costs before you decide.
If you lease a terminal, the lease is a separate contract with its own terms. Bring that too. And keep your current account open until your new account is approved, set up and running a live sale.
How switching works
Tell us about your business and how you take cards today.
After you confirm your email, a short checklist lets you upload a recent statement. Please don't text or email statements: they show your merchant number and part of your tax ID.
We show you your effective rate today and quote the same month with us, model and rates named, before you sign.
After approval we set up your account and your Clover or gateway, test a live sale, and then you close the old account under its agreement.
Already on Clover?
Clover devices bought through another provider are a special case: whether they can move depends on who you have them with. Call us at (770) 629-0928 before you change anything and we will look at it with you.
In-person businesses
If you sell in person, the cash discount program can change what card acceptance costs you: your posted prices are the card prices, and customers who pay cash get 3.5% off. It applies to in-person sales only. See how 3.5% off for cash works.
FAQ
It shouldn't. Keep your current account running until your new account is approved and set up. We test a live sale on the new setup before you stop using the old one.
It depends on your current agreement. Some agreements have no fee after the first term; others charge one, and some renew automatically. Bring the agreement and we read it with you before you decide.
There is no monthly statement, but the numbers are in your reports. In Square, use the fees report; in Stripe, the Balance summary report. Send us the month's gross sales and total fees and we compare from there.
It depends on your card mix, your average sale and how customers pay. Published industry guides put most small businesses between about 2.5% and 4%. Your own statement tells us more than any benchmark.
We quote from your statement, not from a headline rate, because the pricing model and the account fees change what you really pay. If your current pricing is already competitive, the comparison shows that.
