Clover Station Duo
The counter station with a customer-facing screen for the card, the signature and the cash and card prices. The usual choice for the main register at a liquor counter.
Clover POS by business type
Clover POS for liquor stores, set up by Stratamize: age verification, case-break inventory, state-minimum pricing, a cash discount and counter hardware.
A liquor store point of sale has to do three things without slowing the line: check age on every restricted sale, keep inventory straight when the same product sells by the case and by the bottle, and apply pricing rules that change by state and by week. Clover covers the counter well, and some of the liquor-specific work comes from the Clover App Market rather than the base software. We would rather say that here than after the install.
Stratamize sets Clover up around your store: the merchant account, the item catalog with age-restricted flags, the inventory structure for cases and singles, your discounts and deposits, the hardware on the counter and the training for your staff. We put the pricing in writing before you commit, and our team is the first call when something changes.
This page answers the questions liquor store owners ask us most, including the ones competitor posts raise.
Yes, with a distinction worth knowing. Clover lets you flag items as age-restricted, so when a cashier rings up a bottle the screen prompts them to confirm the customer's age before the sale continues. That is the native behavior, and for many stores it is enough: it stops the sale from going through without a conscious check.
Scanning the ID is a different feature. Reading the barcode on a license, checking the date of birth and keeping a record of the check comes from an age verification app in the Clover App Market, not from the base software. If your policy, your insurer or your state board calls for a scanned record on every sale, tell us; we set the app up as part of the install rather than leaving you to find it later.
This is the question to ask before you buy, not after, and the honest answer is that it depends on the app and the ID format, not on Clover itself. Scanning apps read the barcode on the back of a license, and which jurisdictions each app covers is something we confirm with the app's documentation for your store rather than assume. Tell us which IDs your counter sees most, including military IDs, passports and visitors from across the border, and we will check the coverage and show you how the cashier handles an ID the scanner cannot read.
Case-to-bottle breakdown is the pain point liquor store owners raise most, and it is where the competitor posts about Clover have a point worth answering plainly. Clover's built-in inventory tracks items and variants, which is enough to ring up a single or a case at different prices. What the base software does not do on its own is treat a case as a parent of its bottles so that selling one single quietly takes one case apart on the shelf count.
That parent-and-child structure is what liquor inventory apps in the Clover App Market exist for. Bring a few of your products, the ones with the messiest case and single pricing, and we will build them on the app we recommend in front of you, so you see how a case receipt and a single sale each change the count before you commit.
Every state writes its own rules, and your store already knows which ones apply: minimum shelf prices, deposits that show as a separate line, mix-and-match on wine, quantity breaks on beer. Rather than promise that each rule works a particular way, we ask you to bring the rules with you. We build the discounts and deposit lines on the Clover setup we propose and show you a receipt for each case before go-live. Where a rule needs an app instead of a built-in discount, we tell you which one and what it costs, in writing.
Liquor stores take more cash than most retail, which is exactly why owners ask about this. A cash discount, 3.5% off for cash, is available if it fits your store. The register shows the customer the price for cash and the price for card, and the receipt reflects which one was paid. Whether it fits your counter depends on your mix of cash and card and on how your state treats the signage, so ask us; we will lay out both options with your real volume before you decide.
Partly, and we would rather say so than argue. The vendors writing those posts sell systems with case-break and ID scanning built into the base product; on Clover those two features come from App Market apps, which is a real difference in setup. What those posts leave out is the trade: Clover runs your payments and your register on one device with a customer-facing screen, the App Market fills the liquor-specific gaps, and you get a local team that set it up and answers the phone.
If your store needs something neither Clover nor an app covers, we will tell you that too. Candor before the sale is cheaper than a return.
Scanning a UPC is the normal way to ring up a bottle, and Clover works with scanners; ask us which scanner fits the device we propose so you are not buying one that does not pair. Shelf and bottle label printing from your item catalog is a question to put to us before you buy rather than a feature to assume. Loyalty is a strength: Clover has its own rewards program for repeat customers, which matters when the same faces come in every week. Tell us what you want to reward and we will set it up at install.
Approvals usually come back within hours, three days at most. After approval we build the item catalog with you, flag the restricted items, set up cases and singles, load your discounts and deposits, place the hardware and train the staff. The catalog is the long part: a store with a large catalog and messy case pricing takes more care than a small shop, because we test it before go-live rather than letting your cashiers find the gaps on a Friday night. Tell us how many items you carry and whether your current system exports cleanly; that sets the timeline.
Our team. You are a Stratamize merchant, not a ticket number, and the people who set up your register are the ones you call. We are based in Newnan, Georgia, and we work with liquor stores nationwide; ask us what we can do on site versus remotely for your location. If a second store is in the plan, say so up front: whether the stores share a catalog and whether you want one report across both changes how we build the first one.
We set your pricing with you and put it in writing before you sign: the processing rates, the software plan and the hardware. A cash discount, 3.5% off for cash, is available if it fits your business. Ask us for a quote and you will see the real numbers for your volume.
