Lock the terminal and switch cashier

Locking from the avatar menu, the 5-minute idle auto-lock, unlocking with a 4-6 digit PIN, and how the unlocking cashier's name lands on the sales that follow.

Menus and available actions depend on your role and enabled services. In the local demos, use sample records only; no real payments or messages are sent.

One person signs the terminal in for the shift. After that, each cashier identifies themselves with a PIN, and the terminal locks between them.

Before it works: set PINs

The lock only exists once at least one active employee has a PIN. Until then the Lock item in the avatar menu is greyed out and reads "Set employee PINs to enable the lock", and the terminal never locks itself.

A manager or admin sets a PIN on the Employees page — in the form that creates an employee, and in the PIN section of an existing employee's record. A PIN is 4 to 6 digits.

No two people can share a PIN. The lock screen works out who is unlocking from the PIN alone, so a duplicate is refused when it is set.

Lock the terminal

Tap your avatar at the top right and choose Lock. The screen covers over with Terminal Locked and a keypad.

The terminal also locks itself after 5 minutes with no touch, tap or keypress — but only while at least one employee has a PIN.

Locking does not sign anybody out. The sign-in behind it is untouched.

Unlock

Type your PIN on the keypad or the keyboard and tap Unlock. There is no list of names to pick from: the PIN identifies you on its own.

  • Wrong PIN: "Incorrect PIN. 3 attempts remaining."
  • Too many wrong PINs: "Too many attempts. Try again in 60s." The keypad is disabled while the countdown runs. Five tries per minute are allowed, counted for the terminal as a whole rather than per person.
  • A PIN that is not 4 to 6 digits: "PIN must be 4-6 digits."

If you cannot get in, Sign out at the bottom of the lock screen ends the shift's sign-in and returns the terminal to the sign-in page.

What unlocking changes

The person whose PIN unlocked the terminal becomes the cashier on the sales rung from then on. That name is what appears against those sales in Sales History and in the by-cashier reports, so a shared till still shows who rang what.

It changes nothing else. What each person is allowed to do still follows the account that signed the terminal in at the start of the shift, not the PIN. If a cashier needs to do something they are not allowed to do, that is a permission change on the Employees page, not a PIN.

Receipts after a PIN switch

The sale retains the active cashier's name. You can print its receipt from the sale-complete panel or Sales History after another cashier unlocks the same store's terminal. You do not need to sign in as the original cashier just to print it.
