A sign-in lasts eight hours, counted from the moment you entered your code. When the eight hours are up you see Session expired. Redirecting to login... and land back on the sign-in screen.
This is not a fault, and it is not a reaction to anything you did.
Being busy does not extend it
Ringing sales, taking payments, printing receipts and looking up customers do not push the eight hours back. The clock runs from your sign-in and does not stop.
A few back-office screens do push it back — Administration, Suppliers and Support tickets. Nothing a cashier does on the sale screen touches it, so at the counter treat the eight hours as fixed.
"Keep me signed in for 30 days" does not extend it either
That checkbox on the sign-in screen changes how long your browser remembers the sign-in, not how long the sign-in itself is good for. Tick it or leave it — you are still signed out after eight hours.
What to do about it
Sign in when you open, not the night before. A sign-in at 6pm the previous evening runs out at 2am; the same account signed in at 8am covers a 4pm close.
For a shift longer than eight hours, expect one sign-out and plan when it happens rather than being surprised at the counter.
Use the lock screen for breaks, not sign-out. From the avatar menu at the top right, Lock covers the terminal without ending the sign-in — the next cashier unlocks it with their PIN and the eight hours keep running from the original sign-in. Signing out and back in is what resets the clock.
The terminal also locks itself after five minutes of no touching, keyboard or mouse activity, provided at least one employee has a PIN. That is a lock, not a sign-out.
What happens to the sale you were in the middle of
Nothing is charged and nothing is lost from your catalog, but the cart on screen does not survive the sign-out. Sign back in and ring it again.
Completed sales are safe. A sale that reached the confirmation screen is recorded.
If it happens more often than every eight hours
That is not the session timer. Check:
- Somebody pressed Sign out. Signing out on one device ends only that device's sign-in, but on a shared terminal it is easy to hit Sign out in the avatar menu when Lock was meant.
- The browser is clearing cookies. A browser or a kiosk profile set to wipe on close signs you out on every restart. A terminal that is used as a till should not be set that way.
- A different browser or profile each time. The sign-in lives in one browser profile. A shortcut that opens a private window signs you in fresh every time.
If none of those explain it, tell Stratamize what time you signed in and what time you were bounced.
