There are three places that show sales by person. Only one of them is right.
Use Sales by Employee
Reports → Sales by Employee is the correct source. It gives one row per cashier for the period you pick, with their total sales and their transaction count, and a total row underneath.
- Open Reports.
- Pick Sales by Employee from the Sales group in the list on the left.
- Set the date range, and a location if you run more than one.
- Read it on screen, or use Print / Save PDF or Export CSV.
The figures leave out anything refunded in full and any tab that is still open, so what you see is completed, kept revenue.
One thing it does not tell you: it groups by name, so two people with the same name are added together into a single row.
The Employee Performance page is wrong — do not use its numbers
Employees → Performance looks like the same information in a nicer layout. It is not. Its query joins each sale to its line items, so a sale with four things on it is counted four times.
That means for anybody who sells more than one item at a time:
- Sales (their revenue) is multiplied by the number of lines on their sales.
- Transactions is multiplied the same way.
- Total Sales, Avg Transaction Value and Top Performer across the top are built from those inflated figures.
- Avg Transaction on a row leans high, because it averages every sale once per line and so counts a big basket several times.
- Items/Transaction is really units per line, because the transaction count it divides by is the line count.
The order of the table is not reliable either: somebody who rings large baskets is multiplied more than somebody who rings singles, so they can float to the top of a list they do not belong at the top of. Take every figure about a person from Sales by Employee.
Two more things about that page: it always covers every location, whichever location you have selected, and its Today / This Week / This Month buttons mean the last day, the last seven days and the last month counting back from today, not the calendar week or month.
The figures in an employee's own panel
Employees → click a person shows This Week tiles for hours, sales and transactions, and a Performance section with total sales and average ticket. Those come from a different query that counts each sale once, so they do not have the multiplying problem. Two things about them:
- They cover Monday to Sunday of the current week and cannot be pointed at another period.
- Unlike the report, they do not exclude sales that were later refunded or tabs that are still open, so they read a little high on a week with returns.
Use them for "how is this person doing right now". Use Sales by Employee for anything you are going to act on.
Anyone signed in can see this
Neither the Performance page nor the Employees list checks a permission. Any member of staff with a login can open Employees → Performance and read every colleague's sales figures, and can open the Employees list and read every colleague's phone number and email.
Wages are the exception — the server strips those out for anyone who is not a Manager, Admin or Super. See Set wages.
If colleague-visible sales figures are a problem in your shop, the only control today is who you give a login to.
What is not here yet
- No commission and no sales-based pay. See Set wages.
- No per-employee report you can schedule or have emailed.
