Your rewards program pays customers a percentage of what they spend back as store credit. There are no points. There is nothing for a customer to redeem later at a counter — the reward is money in their wallet, and it is spendable on their next visit.
The four tiers
Every customer starts at Standard. Their tier is set by how much they have spent with you in the last twelve months.
| Tier | Spend in the last 12 months | Cashback |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | under $500 | none |
| Silver | $500 or more | 2% |
| Gold | $1,500 or more | 3% |
| Platinum | $3,000 or more | 5% |
Those are the values a new account starts with. You can change every one of them — see Set up your rewards programme.
When cashback is earned
Cashback is worked out at the end of a sale, and only when a customer is attached to it. A walk-in with no customer on the sale earns nothing.
The percentage is applied to the merchandise total before tax, and any part of the sale the customer paid for with their own store credit is taken off first. So a Gold customer who buys $100 of goods and pays $20 of it from their wallet earns 3% of $80, or $2.40. Tax and tips never earn cashback.
The credit lands in the customer's wallet immediately and shows on their record as Wallet.
How a tier changes
After every sale with a customer attached, the system adds up everything that customer has bought in the last twelve months and moves them to whichever tier that total reaches. It happens on its own — there is nothing to run and nothing to approve.
Because the window rolls, a tier can go down as well as up. A customer who spent $1,600 last spring and nothing since drops from Gold back to Standard once those sales are more than twelve months old, and the drop is applied the next time they buy something.
Two details worth knowing about the twelve-month total:
- It uses the full sale total, tax included, even though cashback itself is paid on the pre-tax amount.
- A sale that was later refunded still counts toward it. Refunding a large purchase does not pull the customer back down a tier.
You can set a tier by hand on the customer's record, but their next purchase recalculates it from spend, so a hand-set tier does not hold.
Turning it off
Earning and redemption are two separate switches on the Rewards page. Turning Earning Enabled off stops new cashback from being awarded; balances already in customers' wallets stay where they are and can still be spent. Turning Redemption Enabled off stops the wallet being usable as a tender at the register.
What is not here yet
- There are no points and no point expiry.
- The wallet shows a balance, but there is no screen that lists the individual earn and spend entries behind it. If a customer questions their balance you can see the total, not the history.
